Mattia has shut himself in his parents’ country house to finish a scale model of a fountain inhabited by ten miniature figures. Outside the window, a faceless figure resembling one of them watches him. Just as he believes he is done, an eleventh figure appears in the model, and the room around him begins to change its dimensions. Then someone knocks. It is his father, who has uncovered the lies his son used to cut himself off from the world for two years, and wants to take him away. Left alone, Mattia barricades himself inside. That night the model comes to life and turns against its maker.
